Peter Lane

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Peter Lane is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Novelty AIR, where he leads the company's strategy, growth, capital development, industry partnerships, and execution of a next-generation model for aviation workforce development.

Lane is an entrepreneur and organizational builder whose career spans aviation, education, technology, institutional advancement, executive search, business development, and nonprofit leadership. Across these environments, his work has consistently centered on building organizations, developing high-performing teams, cultivating strategic relationships, and translating ambitious ideas into executable operating models.

Prior to founding Novelty AIR, Lane led Legacy Aviation Learning Center through its transformation from an early-stage concept into a fully operational FAA-certificated Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School in Traverse City, Michigan. Serving in executive and governance leadership roles, including President and Chief Executive Officer, he directed regulatory preparation, organizational development, financial strategy, fundraising, technology implementation, governance, industry partnerships, and the launch of the school's accelerated aviation maintenance training program.

Under his leadership, Legacy Aviation earned its FAA Air Agency Certificate, launched its first student cohorts, developed a technology-enabled instructional model, expanded its governing board, and established relationships connecting students directly with aviation employers. The organization later joined AAR's EAGLE Career Pathway program, creating additional career pathways for graduates into commercial aviation maintenance.

That experience now informs a more ambitious undertaking at Novelty AIR. Lane is leading the development of an employer-embedded training model designed to connect digital academics, immersive technology, FAA-aligned technical education, and supervised hands-on training within real-world aviation maintenance environments. Rather than recreating a traditional aviation school, Novelty AIR is being designed from the outset as a scalable workforce platform capable of responding more directly to the needs of commercial aviation employers.

Lane's earlier career adds another dimension to that work. His experience in institutional advancement and major-gift fundraising developed his ability to align capital with mission; executive search and business development strengthened his understanding of talent and organizational growth; and his work with technology and SaaS organizations helped shape his conviction that thoughtfully deployed technology can improve how organizations operate, communicate, and scale.

Today, Lane brings those disciplines together as he builds Novelty AIR—assembling its leadership team, developing its regulatory and commercial strategy, cultivating aviation and technology partnerships, and establishing the financial and operational infrastructure required to grow responsibly.

His leadership philosophy is grounded in action, integrity, continuous improvement, and stewardship. For Lane, Novelty AIR is ultimately about more than building another aviation training organization. It is about creating an institution capable of earning the trust of students and families, employees, regulators, investors, and aviation partners while helping strengthen the technical workforce on which the future of aviation depends.

Daniel Coleman

Chief Operating Officer / Chief Instructor

Dan Coleman is an aviation maintenance executive, technical leader, and workforce-development professional with more than 26 years of U.S. Coast Guard aviation experience spanning aircraft maintenance, operational readiness, technical training, workforce management, configuration control, safety, and enterprise-level aviation logistics. As Chief Operating Officer and Chief Instructor of Novelty AIR, Dan serves as the company’s senior authority on educational execution and operational delivery, translating Novelty AIR’s workforce-development vision into rigorous, scalable training systems that connect aspiring aviation maintenance technicians directly with the expectations of employers.

Dan brings the kind of operational credibility that resonates across a maintenance organization because his career has been built inside high-consequence aviation environments where readiness, airworthiness, safety, technical discipline, and people development are inseparable. In his current Coast Guard assignment at the Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he leads configuration-management responsibilities supporting a fleet of 204 aircraft valued at more than $2 billion. His portfolio includes a $1.8 million operating budget, oversight associated with more than $35 million in active contracts, and technical-authority responsibilities for aviation support equipment across 26 air stations. He has helped coordinate 85 configuration-change actions representing more than $790 million in aviation modernization activity—work requiring collaboration among engineering, logistics, headquarters, operational units, civilian professionals, contractors, and military leaders.

Earlier, as the Coast Guard’s Avionics Electrical Technician Assignment Officer, Dan managed the talent pipeline for approximately 1,350 aviation technicians and executed more than 600 personnel placements annually. He built data-driven systems to track workforce health, staffing gaps, retention risk, and placement outcomes, while managing a $4.85 million budget. Through deliberate workforce planning and resource management, his team identified approximately $2.7 million in efficiencies while maintaining operational staffing requirements. That experience gives Dan an unusually broad view of the aviation technician lifecycle—from recruiting and training through qualification, assignment, retention, advancement, and long-term workforce readiness.

Dan’s instructional leadership is equally central to his professional background. As an MH-60T Aviation Maintenance Officer in Puerto Rico and Traverse City, Michigan, he helped lead major aircraft and workforce transitions while rebuilding technical training systems for maintainers. During one transition, he redesigned a qualification pathway that reduced time-to-qualification from approximately six months to five weeks by replacing a loosely milestone-driven process with a structured syllabus that deliberately paired classroom instruction with immediate hands-on application. The accelerated model preserved performance, safety, and mission-readiness expectations while helping the unit reach full operational capability ahead of schedule despite approximately 70 percent workforce turnover.

His experience also includes service as an MH-60T Standardization Team Chief and leadership within the Coast Guard’s Advanced Helicopter Rescue School. There, Dan led and mentored a cadre of 15 instructors delivering demanding, high-risk aviation training to more than 500 military, interagency, and international personnel. He led standardization and compliance activity across fleet units and more than 600 qualified aircrew, rewrote multiple aircrew syllabi, and developed curriculum for flight-mechanic training. These assignments reinforced a leadership philosophy that remains central to his work at Novelty AIR: technical knowledge must ultimately translate into demonstrated performance, sound judgment, disciplined execution, and readiness in the real operating environment.

That philosophy aligns directly with Novelty AIR’s employer-integrated training model. Dan has consistently described aviation’s challenge not simply as a shortage of talent, but as a readiness gap—the distance between completing a training program and becoming genuinely productive inside a modern maintenance organization. At Novelty AIR, he is responsible for helping close that gap. He works with the Founder/CEO and employer partners to design training experiences that reflect real maintenance environments, strengthen practical competence, and reduce the friction between education and employment. In industry discussions, Dan serves as the technical and educational subject-matter expert—the executive who can speak peer-to-peer with directors of maintenance, maintenance executives, MRO leaders, manufacturers, and corporate flight departments about workforce requirements, operational constraints, instructional quality, and how training can be integrated without disrupting the maintenance mission.

Dan is also a strong advocate for modernizing how technical professionals learn. His Coast Guard experience has shown him the value of distributed learning, structured on-the-job development, standardization, data, and technology when they are paired with accountable human instruction. He believes technicians learn best when theory is connected quickly to tactile application and when students are given multiple ways to engage with complex material. At Novelty AIR, he helps lead a model that combines online academics, immersive hands-on training, virtual reality, adaptive learning, employer collaboration, and direct instructor mentorship. He is particularly focused on ensuring that innovation serves a practical purpose: producing technicians who are safe, confident, technically capable, employable, and ready to contribute.

As COO / Chief Instructor, Dan’s responsibilities extend beyond the classroom. He helps architect curriculum implementation, instructional quality systems, instructor development, student-success practices, workforce-readiness alignment, immersive employer-site training, and continuous operational improvement. He also plays a central role in Novelty AIR’s FAA Part 147 execution and serves as a key technical voice in employer-partnership development. As the organization scales, his mandate is to build repeatable systems that preserve instructional quality and operational discipline across multiple locations while keeping Novelty AIR closely connected to the needs of the aviation industry.

Dan holds an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate and a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with minors in Safety and Management. His professional development includes the Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Academy, Chief Petty Officer Academy, Advanced Helicopter Rescue School, Advanced Mishap Analysis & Response, Aviation System Safety, Instructor Development, and Leadership and Management training. His career progression—from aviation technician to instructor, maintenance officer, workforce manager, technical authority, and enterprise aviation leader—provides a combination of hands-on credibility and executive perspective that is particularly well suited to Novelty AIR’s mission.

After completing a distinguished Coast Guard career, Dan is returning with his family to Traverse City, Michigan, where he previously served in aviation maintenance leadership during the Coast Guard’s transition to the MH-60T Jayhawk. For Dan, Novelty AIR represents a continuation of the work that has defined his career: developing people, strengthening aviation readiness, improving the systems that support technicians, and helping the next generation of aviation professionals enter the workforce prepared to succeed. His goal is not simply to help students earn an A&P certificate, but to help build professionals whom aviation employers can trust.
